Creating Latinx Shakespeare, with Josh Inocéncio

Featuring Houston-based playwright Josh Inocéncio, this performance-filled evening will explore Latinx appropriations of Hamlet, centering on re-imaginings of Ophelia. Students will perform Inocéncio’s one-act play Ofélio, which draws on the Ophelia prototype to represent the experience of a queer Latino survivor of sexual assault. Inocéncio, who has also directed Shakespeare productions, will discuss his creative process and his view of the intersections of Shakespeare and Latinx drama.
